The perfect food for braces wearers
Especially when having orthodontic treatment as an adult, people often don’t want to give up their favourite food and favourite restaurant. The obvious option here is to skip fixed braces and choose invisible, removable orthodontic treatment with aligners instead.
That way, in theory, you can eat whatever you like. Still, there are foods that are particularly good for our teeth and therefore also ideal for braces wearers – so that you can enjoy your beautiful teeth for a long time.
Foods that are good for your teeth and braces
Ideally, our food is neither sweet nor sour – our teeth don’t love either. In general, foods that stimulate the flow of saliva are good. Saliva is a natural tooth cleaner and therefore also ideal for braces wearers.
1. Leafy greens
Lettuce, spinach and other green leafy vegetables are good to chew. This stimulates the flow of saliva. The saliva washes around the teeth and so cleans them. It is also the first step in neutralising acid, which is harmful to teeth.
2. Dairy products
Most products made from cow’s milk contain plenty of calcium, which strengthens the bones. Many dairy products also contain special proteins that strengthen tooth enamel.
3. Raw food
Raw fruit and vegetables are good for our bodies because they contain lots of vitamins and minerals. We also have to mix them well with saliva as we eat, and therefore chew a lot. This happens quite naturally – there’s no need to make a conscious effort to chew for longer. All that chewing in turn stimulates the cleansing flow of saliva.
The big advantage of orthodontic treatment with aligners is that you can take the clear aligners out at any time and so eat anything. Nothing stands in the way of your dream smile!
