Braces & health insurance
If all the different insurers mean you can no longer see the wood for the trees when it comes to reimbursement, we’ll gladly help you out and get the maximum for you.

Qualified orthodontics
ÖGK, BVAEB, SVS, KFA ... As you know, these abbreviations stand for the many different health insurance funds in Austria – and unfortunately each fund handles orthodontic treatment differently. But don’t worry: at the Eltz Institut we keep track of it all despite the complexity and can tell you exactly what to expect at your consultation.
The Eltz Institut is recognised by the Austrian health insurance funds as a qualified orthodontic practice, so with our braces you may be able to get part of your treatment costs reimbursed by your health insurance.
Which braces are covered by health insurance?
At the Eltz Institut we offer invisible & removable braces (aligners) as well as fixed braces with clear and silver brackets. Both types of braces are eligible for reimbursement from the health insurance funds – in different amounts.

What does the health insurance subsidy for braces depend on?
The exact subsidy depends on the following three factors:
Your health insurance fund
Each fund pays different subsidies. We’ve looked into the details and can give you information about your fund at your free initial consultation.
Grade of your malocclusion according to the IOTN classification
The IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need) is a clinical index for assessing the need for treatment on a scale from 1 to 5.
- Grade 1: no need for treatment
- Grade 2: minor anomaly, no need for treatment
- Grade 3: borderline need for treatment
- Grade 4: need for treatment
- Grade 5: need for treatment
If there is no need for treatment, most funds don’t pay a subsidy. From IOTN 2, some funds pay a subsidy. The higher the grade, the larger a subsidy can be. For children up to 18, treatment at the Eltz Institut is even free from IOTN 4.
Your choice of braces
Some funds grant larger subsidies for fixed braces than for invisible aligners.

How your reimbursement works
After your free consultation, you’ll receive a detailed cost plan from us that is recognised by the health insurance funds. You can submit it directly to your health insurance fund. If the treatment is approved, the fund pays the fixed subsidy every year.
For quick processing, we recommend using the online service portal www.meinesv.at.
Flexible instalments
With your health insurance details, we can agree on monthly instalments together with any term from 12 to 60 months, so that the treatment is painless not only medically but financially, too.
During this time, we support you with the health insurance reimbursement and, if needed, with tax deductions, so that the treatment is as affordable as possible for you.
