Which braces are right for me?
Once you’ve decided on braces, you’re still spoilt for choice. An orthodontist will of course advise you in detail on which form of orthodontic treatment will achieve the best and fastest results for you.
Nevertheless, the patient’s wishes also matter – and that’s where an informed, well-considered choice of braces is particularly important. The pros and cons of the different methods should be weighed up.
The different types of braces
An overview of the most common forms of orthodontic treatment:
Removable braces
Many people are given removable braces as children. These are always worn at night and ideally in the afternoon as well. The appliance is made of plastic and wire and can be made in different colours.
Fixed braces (brackets)
Fixed braces consist of metal and sometimes ceramic parts, known as brackets. Unlike removable braces, they can’t be forgotten. Treatment is fast and achieves the goal effectively.
Invisible removable braces
A particularly popular form of orthodontic treatment is invisible braces. Aligners are transparent trays that are virtually invisible when worn. The aligners are custom-made, and every 14 days you switch to the next aligner yourself, so that you gently reach your dream smile step by step. The aligners can easily be taken out for eating, drinking or brushing your teeth. This form of orthodontic treatment fits perfectly into patients’ everyday lives and poses no obstacle whatsoever in daily life.
